Microsoft has begun rolling out a fresh update to its Copilot app (version 1.25082.132.0) for users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, introducing two significant AI-driven enhancements.
Semantic File Search
The headline feature is semantic file search, a powerful new way to find documents, images, and other files on Windows 11. Instead of relying on exact file names or keywords, users can now search using natural language queries.
For example, you could type:
- “Find my CV” to quickly locate résumé documents.
- “Show me pictures of bridges at sunset on my PC” to retrieve relevant photos stored locally.
This capability is powered by AI models that understand context and meaning rather than just text matches. Users will also be able to manage which files and folders Copilot can access via privacy settings.
Importantly, semantic file search will be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs—the new generation of Windows 11 devices equipped with advanced NPUs (neural processing units) designed for on-device AI tasks.
A Redesigned Copilot Home
The update also delivers a refreshed Copilot home page, consolidating your recent apps, files, and conversations into one central hub. The goal is to make Copilot not just a chatbot but a true productivity dashboard for Windows users.
Gradual Rollout
Microsoft says the update is rolling out gradually through the Microsoft Store across all Insider channels. Broader availability to non-Insider users will likely follow once testing feedback has been incorporated.
